Is Msft Granting Another Six Months of Vista with Downgrade Option?
October 4th, 2008 | Posted in Current Events, Marketing, Misc Assorted General Stuff, Opinion, Software | 4 CommentsAccording to a recent item in The Register, Microsoft is giving the green light for computer makers to continue selling Vista machines with the the option to “downgrade” (I’d call it an upgrade myself) to Windows XP. Given how almost militant Microsoft has been about pushing vista I’m surprised a move like this doesn’t make ’em break out in Plantar Fasciitis (or at least a drenching nervous sweat)
OEM computer makers can now offer deals like that until January 31, 2009 as opposed to the July 31, 2009 that this announcement would extend it to. The downside of this is that according to slashdot, niether Microsoft or any OEM has said anything to confirm or deny the statement so it has to remain classed as a rumor for now.

I guess many of them are still not interested to use Vista.. So MS has to continue this atleast for some more time..

based on experience in our house with my wife’s Vista infected laptop, “not interested in Vista” is the understatement of the decade.
to use the nicest words I can think of:
Vista blows gooey, hairy, slime covered chunks.
i dont think it would be such a big deal if it didn’t take up so much space :/

If what didn’t take up so much space? XP? Vista? You don’t say what you’re talking about.
XP? It takes up a fair amount of space, but you can do a full XP install in under a gigabyte which leaves lots of room on modern hdd’s
Vista? It’s bigger and subject to microsoft’s bloatware effect.
If you’re talking about memory use, XP wins. It’ll run in 256 megs while vista needs a gigabyte at least and really 2 gigabytes of ram to be comfortable.
