More Wish List
I know that I keep tossing things into the wish list but I figure that there is absolutely no percentage in being conservative with a wish list because who knows, maybe someday something from it will strike somebody as the perfect gift idea. Or, to put it another way, “If you’re going to dream, dream big.”
And so every once in a while I go browsing sale pages to see what goodies there are that would make worthy additions to the list. And with the determination about a month or so ago that the laptop that I’ve currently got is, in fact, dead beyond reasonable repair costs that gets elected as the subject of this addition to the wish list.
This HP NC6400 Laptop may not be the most powerful state of the art machine going today but It’s still got plenty of potential as a workhorse machine that will A) allow me to work away from my office when I need to (you’d be surprised how many times I find myself thinking “If I had a working laptop I could be getting *something* done while I’m sitting here waiting for xyz” and B) serve as a utility machine to handle things like rendering video so that my desktop machine is free for me to work on other stuff while a video or 3-D model renders.
Then there’s the OS. an important consideration is the fact that this machine is not infected with Vista OR “Seven”. Instead it’s got good old reliable, I don’t have to re-learn how to invent the wheel, XP Pro. Which means that it would be a seamless operation to set it up with copies of my software tools without having to chase around looking for different versions to suit a new OS.
All in all, it looks great, the price is pretty good too. $384.95 for a refurbished unit. Spend a few hours removing the default bundled HP software that I’ll never use and I’d be ready to go.
