If your ISP is Qwest Communications, I would very strongly recommend that you invest some time learning about tools and practices for maintaining online privacy and start using them immediately. A good place to start is Tor, which can be used to anonymize web browsing and several other types of connections, change your browser settings to automatically delete all cookies when you close it and look into one of the builds of PGP or GnuPG and begin encrypting all of your email. Yes, it does sound like a lot of work learning about and installing these things, but if your privacy is important to you at all then the only way you can be sure you have ANY privacy online is to be proactive and take steps to assure that privacy. It would also be a great idea to let your elected officials in Congress know that you oppose data retention laws, mandatory or otherwise.
