MD: New ID theft law, but who knew?

I’m sorry, but the really big question I’ve got is why the SSN has been
on these things to begin with? Perhaps your employer needs it, but it’s
absolutely not needed to cash or deposit the check and you certainly
don’t need them to tell YOU what your number is. (well, you shouldn’t
need to anyway.)

There may be something missing from your paycheck in the new year
- a Social Security number.

A bill signed into law by Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. on May 16,
and in effect as of Jan. 1, forbids companies from printing Social
Security numbers on paychecks and wage statements. The move is
intended to combat the growing fear of identity theft.
