I think that this story needs to get some more press but like many
important stories, it’s getting lost in the brain numbing swill that is
still making an excessively big deal about Anna Nicole Smith’s child and
who the father is. Etc. etc. Then along comes this Imus person and the
latest round of "he said something that hurt my feelings and now he
needs to apologize, get fired and oh yes, go to rehab"…

I’ll put more of my thoughts on this latest load in an upcoming post. In
the meantime this other story needs attention. You see, Freedom of
speech is something that’s suffered a lot in the last few years and it’s
good to see a case in which a person’s right to express their opinion
and thoughts is upheld.

Mind you, I don’t think that the juvenile in question should have
resorted to an "Expletive Laced" style of posting. There’s much better
ways to express yourself than that. However, style aside, freedom of
speech is important, even if it means you don’t like what somebody has
to say.

I only wish that there had been a link to the page in question so that
it would be possible to have a look and decide for myself what I thought
of it. Lacking that, based on what one of the judges had to say about
it, it sounds like opinion couched in satire. Possibly offensive,
definitely protected under the constitution.

Indiana Court Reverses Juvenile Penalty Over MySpace Postings

INDIANAPOLIS Apr 10, 2007 (AP)— A judge violated a juvenile’s
free-speech rights when he placed her on probation for posting an
expletive-laden entry on MySpace criticizing a school principal, the
Indiana Court of Appeals ruled.
