To sell domain names
with the idea in mind of making a profit you have to learn what factors
add value to the domain. Think of it as if it were a kind of virtual
real estate. The value depends on how popular the name is. The extension
of the name (top level domain) is like part of the neighborhood it’s in.
How long the name is directly affects how easy it will be to remember
and how willing people will be to type it into an address bar.

Another factor is that if the name is an older one it can actually be
better, having more value because it may well already have some of those
precious inbound links from it’s previous use. This gives a webmaster a
head start in promoting it.
