In the 'it's about blasted time' department, it looks like there's a
chance that bloggers could start getting some of the same protections
that print and television journalists do.

While they're at it, how about some measures to insure protection of our
freedom of speech? Or would that be too much to expect?

Bills
propose reporter's shield for bloggers

One sponsor says intent is to include anyone who "regularly"
engages in newsgathering, but "not everyone in our society."

Bloggers engaged in journalistic pursuits would be granted immunity
from divulging confidential sources under a new bill pending in both
chambers of Congress.
