The good folks at Yahoo have been busy. Their latest invention is to make it easier to send text messages to a cell phone.

Pro: I’ve sent a couple txt msgs from a cellphone and typing anything out on a phone’s dialpad is a royal PITA that I hope I don’t have to do very often, This service means I could use a real keyboard to do it.

Con: If there isn’t an Internet connected computer available, you’re back to the aforementioned PITA of “typing” on the chicklet keys of a phone

Con: By making it this much easier to send text messages, you can bet it won’t be a week before somebody has a bot set up to spam viagra ads to cellphones everywhere.

Yahoo Adds Features to Popular E-Mail

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) will introduce new features Monday for its popular Web-based e-mail program, including software that allows computer users to type text messages on a keyboard and send them directly to someone’s cell phone.

The enhancements make it easier to send e-mail, instant messages or text messages from a single Web site - no need to launch or toggle between separate applications or devices. The features will be available to users in the United States, Canada, India and the Philippines.
