The school board in Portland Maine have, in spite of a lot of vocal opposition, decided to go ahead with their plans to make a whole range of contraceptive methods available to children as young as eleven, including birth control pills and patches.

They’re defending this policy by saying that it’s aimed at

“a tiny number of sexually active students.”

What they SHOULD be doing is working to discourage ANY students from being sexually active. I mean it’s no small matter we’re talking about like a bunch of teeny boppers playing dress-up games with pretend fashion jewelry, This is literally children getting into an activity that will lead to results they’re just not prepared to handle.. Like children having children…

The answer is NOT to just hand out birth control and say “have at it kids”, but instead to educate them with reasons WHY it’s not a good idea. This is one of the many reasons why all this “separation of church and state” nonsense is such a bad idea. By taking away the ability to use scriptural authority and explanations of good and evil, we’ve lost the foundation that could have prevented children as young as 11 from NEEDING birth control in the first place!

It’s stuff like this that makes me thank God everyday that I homeschool my children. I’ve also heard that CA is trying to pass a bill that would not allow the use of mom and dad when referring to the family. I’ve even heard that boys and girls who have “gender identity problems” would be allowed to chose the bathroom they want to use. I think that is probably the scariest thing I’ve heard in a long time! Again, so glad I homeschool my kids.

While i agree that 11 is pretty young to be introducing birth control methods, i don’t think their principle is wrong. The school board isn’t persuading the kids to have sex - they are educating them about safe methods; kids find out about sex easily enough on their own. Kids are going to do what they want, especially if parents and ‘grown ups’ tell them not too. Educating kids about sex is the answer not forbidding it. Sooner or later kids are going to come across sex and drugs and a whole lot of other bad things, no matter how much their parents try to shelter them. If a child has been educated about these things they can make a smart decision when faced with choices about things like sex.

I’m assuming here that you are implying the ‘church’ in ‘church and state’ would be the one of Christianity. If there were no separation between church and state then the right to freedom of religion is narrowed and you would be forcing your beleifs on other people. Throwing that out would be underming the foundation of this country.

    Hi!

First visit to your blog. :-) I’m appalled at the thought of a school providing birth control. And to kids as young as 11???? If I found out a school had given them to my kids, without my consent, there would be a huge fit thrown, and possibly a gang of lawyers yanked in.

I do believe that God should never have been taken out of the school, but more importantly, it should be in the HOME. That’s where kids either get or don’t get a lot of their values. A strong family with strong family values is the best education a kid can get, sex or otherwise.

Thank you for bringing this information out. I had no idea schools could do that, but of course, I live in a different state. Might be different here.

    Have a great day!
