« Some Changes Russia And China Veto Zimbabwe Resolution »

I just saw this article on Time about something that’s got to be one of the flat out dumbest things I’ve heard about in quite a while. The practice of sending text messages while driving.

Can you imagine this? I’m no expert by a long shot but I’ve sent a few text messages (just enough to know I’d rather use conventional email!) and I cannot conceive of how anybody could manage to even dial a cellphone while driving, let alone use that incredibly clunky and slow method to write a text message and send it.

I think that among other things, this craze is going to have grandparents all over the place making sure that their children have life insurance for kids because if this practice is allowed to continue, somebody’s going to get killed. Most likely it’s going to be somebody that wasn’t the goofball trying to text while driving.

On the upside, there have been several states that have passed laws prohibiting this stupidity, Louisiana being one of the most recent. Yeah, I get that they’re going to be hard to enforce, but at least if they’re in place and it comes out that a driver was texting when an accident happened, then that moron gets to be liable AND prosecuted.

I agree on the danger. Talking on the cell phone is bad enough. I always figured that other people’s lives were more important than a phone call. If it’s an emergency, PULL OVER. But, TEXTING, are these people suicidal?

Either suicidal or down right incapable of enough coherent thought that they don’t realize the danger to themselves and others

Yah…. California’s new cell phone law doesn’t prohibit texting, but it prohibits talking on your cell w/o a hands free device….. very lame.

my opinion… I think that laws should be amended to include “No using text messages while driving”

The real shame is that people (theoretically) have the brains to know how dangerous this is yet they do it anyway

I hate to admit, but color me guilty of this. Whole emails in fact. It’s very stupid but we are all taught to multitask in this world and I do what I have to do. Wish I could learn to put it down though, I’m afraid I will get into an accident.

Well, I’d certainly hope that if an email was that important that you could find a place to pull over for the minute or two it would take to compose and send.

I have no doubt that if you (or anyone) continue doing things like that an accident is guaranteed to happen. The really sad part is that there will probably be other people involved in it.
