Once again Iran is in the news, once again it’s because they’re refusing to halt their uranium enrichment program. The US state department is once again talking about sanctions:

“We hope the Iranian people understand that their leaders need to make a choice between cooperation, which would bring benefits to all, and confrontation, which can only lead to further isolation,” U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in Washington.

Thing is, it seems to me that this sanctions thing has been done before. We did it and the UN did it several times, the most notable recent adventure in sanctions involved Iraq. Seems to me that we went back and forth issuing resolutions and imposing sanctions for better than 12 years and in the end it took military force to stop Saddam and his plans. An action I might point out that is *still* underway and is still debated by many.

Now this situation with Iran is looking all too familiar. Demands are being made and they’re flatly refusing to comply or even talk about complying. They’ve got their own agenda and they fully intend to see it through.

Frankly I think that Iran needs to look over their western border and see what their future might hold if they continue this direction of hostility. That possibility becomes especially more likely as the situation in Iraq grows more stable and the Iraqi government takes over more and more security functions and US soldiers begin coming home.
