Audacity is a digital audio editor. It allows you to edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF audio files. You can do cool tricks like change the speed or pitch of a recording. Want to know what you’d sound like as a chipmunk? Audacity can help you find out.

You can also use it to convert tapes and records into digital recordings that you can then burn to CD. It can also import and export a variety of file formats. (except of course proprietary or restricted file formats such as WMA and AAC)
