Welcome back!

I see that Jerry Seinfeld is now busily plugging vista. I saw him in a commercial Thursday night walking along all buddy buddy like with Bill Gates. I honestly didn't watch much after that because I've never cared much about watching Seinfeld in anything.

I wonder why he's doing the Microsoft Vista dance now? Could it be that the entertainment industry is starting to understand that he's not really all that funny and he's not had any luck coming up with acting jobs?

Nah.. It's because Microsoft is paying him a bundle to do it. Too many people still think Jerry's funny and while he has come up with a line or three now and then that I thought was funny I don't think that overall he's all that OR a bag of chips... But then again that's my point of view.

What I'd like to see is one of those everybody recognizes them type personalities start showing up in ads that are aimed at educating people about the Linux alternative. Make 'em funny, informative and memorable and there'd be a whole lot of people giving a second thought to Microsoft operating systems.

I dunno, I quite like Seinfeld. It’s not like doing ads for Microsoft is much of a step down though, think of the cash!

Oh, I’m sure it’s not a step down in terms of money. M$ has plenty of it to throw around and Seinfeld isn’t exactly a pauper OR a cheap actor to hire. The step down would be in terms of saying how good vista is when it’s been shown to be full of so many problems that large numbers of people upgrade their brand new vista machines to xp or linux.

What’s the message? “Vista is hard, let’s go shopping!”

I toldja, they shoulda gone with a tried and tested comedic genius. http://tinyurl.com/5c3r6y

I just don’t find Jerry Seinfeld rubbish so I have no buy in for this. In fact i think he is a pompus over paid hack.

I know he is considered to be funny but it seems to me he is also to ‘institutional’ to be ablet o get the feeling they are looking for.

If they HAVE to go down the funny path then I would have thought Will Farrel or jack Black would have been ideal, with a foot in both mainstream and alternative and so able to give mass appeal and appeal to those who have ‘more buy in’ to these sort of products.

Personally I would have gone down another route altogether. rather than try take the Mac on in a funny popularity contest why not go down another route and bring in a more ’serious’ actor like Denzel Washington, Samuel L jackson or Liam Neeson in, someone with authority. Then use them to pitch microsoft as a trail blazing company who are also an industry standard and if you want your work to tally with everyone elses than microsoft are your boys?

they have a huge industry market, domainate everything in a business setting and yet try to use humour to try take more market share. From a branding point of view that makes no sense at all to me

All I can say is that from *this* customer’s point of view, Microsoft has become one of the biggest reasons for my plans to migrate to Linux.
