It’s true that I’ve been thinking (and writing) quite a bit about classic tv lately and while most of it has been in the 1960’s, not all of what I personally consider to be “classic tv” dates back anywhere near that far.

One good example is the science fiction ( I *H*A*T*E* the term “sci-fi” or worse, “SyFy”) series called “Sliders“.  This show was the story of a young genius inventor that created a device that creates a wormhole to another dimension.  One of the coolest things about this show is that there’s a DVD set on sale that includes both the first and second seasons.  The third and fourth seasons are in separate sets and all of them are remarkably inexpensive considering how popular the show was while it was on.

It’s theory sounds remarkably similar to that used in “Stargate SG-1” however in this case their location is always within a couple of hundred miles of where they started.  What changes is what dimension they’re in.

It explores some of the infinite possibilities of what might be if this or that were different.  Those differences can be anything from very small to completely different worlds.

The show is the story of four unwitting adventurers, the inventor, his professor, and two people that are accidentally drawn into the first slide.  As can be predicted, there is an accident in the first slide that prevents them from returning to their start point and in fact, they lose all control over where they are sliding to, never knowing when or even if they are going to return to their home dimension.

I’ve seen a few episodes of this online but not even close to the entire series which is what I would really like to have.  If finances cooperate, I’m going to have this season 1 and 2 set and seasons 3 and 4 soon after.
