Well, I’ll say one thing, the old Clinton machine has hit the ground
running. This promise to end the war is right out of the Nixon
reelection campaign in ’72. By bringing the troops home from Vietnam, he
was all but guaranteed the victory, even though we ended up losing that
undeclared war by quitting.

I’ll also say that I don’t consider this to be even remotely good news
simply BECAUSE the effect a promise like this can have. If she can pull
off enough charisma in her speeches and keep pulling the subject back to
President Bush’s insistence that the job be done and her promise to
bring the troops home, it will carry her a long way.

Personally, I’d like to see her and her not so loyal hubby carried back
to someplace in the backwoods of Arkansas where neither one of them can
hurt anything. ‘course, that depends on the backwoods of Arkansas being
willing to have them now doesn’t it?

Clinton
Promises to End War if Elected

WASHINGTON (AP) – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she would
not have attacked Iraq if she were president in 2002 and would end the
war if elected, as she tried to blunt rivals like John Edwards who are
stoking anti-war passions in the Democratic Party.

Clinton, raising her voice at one point to be heard above anti-war
hecklers, suggested that calls from Edwards and others to cut off
funding for President Bush’s troop increase are unlikely to win
approval in a narrowly divided Senate.
