Bush says budget will limit non-defense spending
There’s something very wrong here. I fully understand that defense
spending is important and not something to skimp on. I realize that the
military situation in Iraq and Afghanistan are important and whether we
like it or not, a certain amount of funding is necessary until such time
that we’re no longer involved in it.
However the idea that spending for domestic needs is somehow less
important just doesn’t strike me right. This isn’t World War Two and the
fate of the free world does not hang on Iraq and Afghanistan. The
situations in those countries is important but taking funding away from
domestic needs without extremely good reason is something that’s going
to bite somebody in the hindquarters one of these days.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President George W. Bush said on Saturday
his upcoming budget proposal would emphasize restraint on domestic
spending while making defense and war costs for Iraq and Afghanistan
the top priority.
