Ballmer Threatens Open Source As He Deals With Linux

Never let it be said that Steve Ballmer has a warm fuzzy feeling about
open source software. In fact, I think it’s pretty safe to say he
downright hates it. A fact that must make Microsoft’s recent deal with
Suse Linux awfully hard to swallow.

It’s pretty obvious that M$ isn’t going to make nice any more than it
has to.. which is to say, as long as they’re making lots of money,
they’ll make nice. Once they can get position, they’ll pull out all the
stops and attack full force.

Ballmer
repeats threats against Linux

Steve Ballmer has reissued Microsoft’s patent threat against Linux,
warning open-source vendors that they must respect his company’s
intellectual property.

Ballmer and M$ doesn’t like open source because it lays bare all the
inside secrets of a software or operating system. This is why we’ll
never see an open-source version of Windoze for example.

As for Suse being the version of the Linux Operating System that they
choose do deal with, I can’t really comment much except to mention
price. The "SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 1-Device 1-Year
Subscription" license costs $50 and the 3 year subscription is $150
which means that when the license expires, all of a sudden your
operating system isn’t yours anymore. Distributions like Debian
on the other hand, are free under the GNU public license and they do not
expire.
