I heard about Portable Apps recently. It’s a whole load of software that
has been specially configured so that it can be installed on and run
from a USB flash drive. The programs have been configured to keep all of
their settings and files on the flash drive instead of the computer’s
hard drive. This means that you can use it in any computer modern enough
to accept the flash drive.

This means you could have a copy of Firefox customized the way you like
it, complete with all of your favorite bookmarks… or perhaps you’d
want to use the portable version of Thunderbird to keep your email handy
from any computer.

Combine this with Truecrypt in ‘traveller’ mode, and you also have
plenty of security by having everything on the flash drive stored within
an encrypted container.
