I just saw a very interesting article on Ars Technica about a grad student in Amsterdam that came up with a device that can prevent queries to RFID chips.

The RFID Guardian is essentially a firewall that can prevent or allow RFID queries, and can do so on a per-tag basis.

If there’s any truth to this story, then I think it’s safe to say that somebody stands to make a bundle making and selling these little gems so that we can silence the blasted things.

Hrm… for that matter, what if somebody built a large scale version of the device… say with a 10,000 watt transmitter… Do you suppose it would be possible to squelch all of the RFID’s in a largish area?
