Your own domain vs free blogging sites
The next item on Blog Bloke’s list of reasons for not liking a blog is
7. Your blog is on MySpace
The idea here is that a lot of serious bloggers don’t consider a lot of free platformst like MySpace to worth reading. Exactly why this is so I haven’t seen anyone saying. I’ve also seen people saying similar things about blogger or other free blogging platforms.
I think the main thought here is that if you take the time to get a domain name and web hosting for it, you’ll be taken more seriously because you’ve taken those steps that a blog on MySpace or Blogger doesn’t require.
It takes a little bit of time to learn how to do things, but most web hosting services have fairly simple control panels and are pretty easy to learn how to use. Plus, once you’ve got everything set up, all you need to do is get on with the regular posting and make an occasional backup.
Besides, when you have a domain name and your own hosting, you don’t have somebody else putting advertising on your site that you can’t control or telling you what you can and cannot post.
