After a long time of controversy and assorted fussing and fuming the anti-Gonzales side has finally gotten their wish when he announced his resignation.  The big question now is who’s going to take his place and will that person be any more acceptable than Gonzales was?

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announced his resignation, ending a lengthy
standoff with critics who questioned his honesty and competence. President Bush said
his longtime ally’s “good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons.”

My guess is that regardless of who it is there will be more trouble.. first in getting him confirmed by the senate and then in people having a problem with the way he does his job.  It wouldn’t surprise me if a year from now the man’s replacement is taking much the same kind of heat that he has faced these last few months.
