Something that you hear more and more about these days is VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), which allows phone and video phone calls to be sent over the Internet instead of traditional phone lines.  It’s a service that is gaining in popularity both because it’s less expensive and also because, for those on the go it’s portable, all you need is a laptop and a Wi-Fi hotspot for an Internet connection and you’re ready to go.

Packet8 is an Internet phone service that is offering services that any small (or large) business would do well to use.  If I were setting up phone service for a small business I’d probably end up using Packet8 Virtual Office because it looks like a pretty easy way to go, you don’t have to install a bunch of equipment and it’s got a bunch of features to maximize the usefulness and benefits, turning it into a complete business phone system.

By adding their Broadband Phone Adapter would complete the setup allowing a standard phone to be connected to the computer for use in the VoIP system.  There’s also a bunch of other possibilities like video phones, headsets for hands free operation and more.  Another advantage is inter-office calls in the network are free.

Because it’s operating over the net, even employees working from home or on the road can be connected to the system as easy as connecting to the Internet.
