One of the several plugins I use with firefox is Adblock.  It’s a handy filter that makes it possible to remove things from websites as they load.

Say you load a website and it’s got an ad banner that you’re sick of looking at.  With Adblock installed all you have to do is right click on it and select “adblock image” or “adblock background”, whichever applies.  A filter edit box pops up showing the url for the image you want to block.  when you click ‘ok’ the image in question disappears from the page, never to be seen again (unless you either disable adblock or remove that filter rule.

I’ve been using it for quite a while and I’ve put together a list of filters that make my browsing more pleasant because I’ve made rules that block certain flash based ads and various banners that I’m really tired of seeing again.
