Archive for the ‘Software’ category

I just read something that needs some attention. It’s a Wired.com piece called “Air Force Aims for ‘Full Control’ of ‘Any and All’ Computers“.
Essentially, they’re working on developing a suite of software tools that will give them access to and full control over any type of computer they encounter.
The whole point is to be [...]

Recently I wrote about a project Modifying Thingamablog For Freenet 0.5 and while I have not yet been able to solve the puzzle of how to make the needed mods for the current version of Thingamablog, I have run into a problem with the templates.
Thingamablog uses tags within the templates that need to be converted [...]

After a LONG time without updates, version 1.2.5-Beta of Mixminion Message Sender is now available.
There’s been several changes / tweaks in the code (see the changelog below) and I’ve created a new distribution that includes Mixminion ready to run “out of the box”.
I have not yet been able to compile Win32 binaries of the latest [...]

Mail2News Gateways

May 13th, 2008

I’m currently working on an update to Mixminion Message Sender and while I’m at it, I’d like to expand the number of mail2news gateways that it’s set up to use for posting to usenet.
Currently, I know of three that accept the name(s) of the newsgroup(s) as part of the “To:” address. This format is [...]

There’s a piece in the NYTimes about lawyers having to fly all over the place and take all sorts of measures because they’re afraid of their contact with clients being monitored by the US government.
While I’m never going to be sympathetic to terrorists & their supporters, it’s part of how things are *supposed* to be [...]

Firefox Plugin: Reload Every

April 20th, 2008

One of the things that I love about firefox is that it’s so easy to customize the daylights out of it. Firefox Plugins are kinda like patio furniture, you can find something for nearly any situation or need and just like you can arrange patio furniture to suit your style, you can use the [...]

Is Windows Collapsing?

April 20th, 2008

According to an article on computerworld.com Microsoft had best make sure that the Windows operating system has an up to date programlife insurance quote. Because the way things have been going with Vista and Microsoft’s refusal to just be sensible and stick with the XP that already works…. beefing that up instead of scrapping [...]

When I started my first blog, I was using thingamablog to do it with. I’ve long since converted to WordPress but I remember it well. It was actually a decent program.
Then on the latest edition of the flog “My Two Cents Worth(freenet link*)” there’s talk of a version that’s been modified so that [...]

Not only are they snooping on the browsing habits of customers, it’s going a lot farther than that. First there’s an article on dailymail.co.uk where BT, One of the UK’s largest ISPs, admits to spying on 36,000 customers. The article tells how BT chose 36,000 of it’s users for a trial run in [...]

Firefox Plugin: NoScript

April 4th, 2008

For those who’ve never heard of it, the name of this plugin sounds like it prevents all scripts, javascript, java and so on from running. That’s actually half true. Look at the description on the NoScript download page:
It allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your [...]
